Do you have any dresses or tops that just don't cover your bra straps? Previously (and now, on slightly more expensive clothes), it was quite common to have strap holders on the inside of the shoulder seam to secure the garment to your underwear. In production, this is an expensive process, but it can make a big difference in turning that garment you actually love but don't like to wear because the bra strap sticks out, into a favorite garment again. It's especially with formal wear that you might want to use this, otherwise it probably doesn't matter so much if your underwear shows a little.
In the picture here, they use a safety pin in addition to stitching... but it's possible to make a loop with sewing thread, or even sewing thread with buttonhole stitches, so that this strap/loop can go under before being fastened around underwear or a slip.
It's on the inside, so the color doesn't matter much, but I recommend black for dark garments and white for light garments!
