If you're interested in sashiko embroidery, this book is very useful. The first part covers a bit of history, an introduction to various materials and equipment you might need, basic techniques, and how to draw your own patterns. The book contains several projects you can make with sashiko motifs (small bags, cushions, and so on). The best part, and the majority of the book, is a pattern library showing how the patterns are drawn (grids, circles, proportions) and the order in which the lines should be sewn! The correct order is very important, both for the final result and for making the process easier!

So, whether you want to draw your own motifs or use pre-printed fabric and other types of templates, this book is a useful resource and provides a good introduction to the technique that has become so popular, especially among repair enthusiasts, in recent years.

The author, Susan Briscoe, writes for patchwork and quilting magazines, and first encountered sashiko when she was an English teacher in Japan in the 90s, later returning to learn from experts there.
