These water-soluble patterns make it easier to sew sashiko patterns or similar decorative stitches and repairs based on a grid. Cut out the desired size (or use the whole sheet as is), stick the patch onto the garment, sew, and then rinse the patch away with water. Only your stitches will remain!
If you're using it for repair, you should attach a patch to the outside or inside of the damaged area before sticking on and sewing with this patch.
Use a piece of fabric similar to the garment and baste it on before sewing the pattern.
