Complete kits for making sashiko-patterned patches, or for use as clothing repairs.
Each pack includes a needle, thread, and fabric with a pattern to make 5 patches (with fabric for turning inside out and covering the back). The print washes off, be careful not to iron the fabric before washing it, as the print may become permanent!
Currently, we only have Japanese instructions, but the illustrations are the most important part. Please feel free to send a customer message or a message on My Visible Mend's Facebook page (or in the group) if you need more guidance! One of the most important things is to always look for the straight lines you can sew, across and diagonally, which will ultimately form the pattern.
The patches can be attached to the outside or inside of holes or worn areas. If you use them on the inside, attach them with long basting stitches using sewing thread, safety pins, or a glue pen, with the print facing you so you can see it, then sew through so the thread forms the pattern on the front.
Search for sashiko on YouTube and you will find a lot of good help! There are also sashiko groups on Facebook, for example, and several handicraft associations offer sashiko courses, so check a handicraft association near you!
This kit has double fabric and comes without a sashiko thimble. You can find a palm thimble here.
