Ready-made kits for making sashiko pattern coasters, or for use as patches on clothes.
1 package includes needle, thread, palm thimble, and fabric with a pattern to make 5 coasters with folded edges. The print washes out, so be careful not to iron the fabric before washing it, as the print may become permanent!
Currently, we only have Japanese instructions, but the illustrations are the most important part. Feel free to send a customer message or a message on the My Visible Mend Facebook page (or in the group) if you need more guidance! One of the most important things is to always look for the straight lines you can sew, across and diagonally, which will eventually form the pattern.
The patches can be attached to the outside or inside of holes or worn areas. If you use them on the inside, attach them with long basting stitches with sewing thread, safety pins, or a glue pen, and have the print facing you so you can see it, then sew straight through so the thread forms the pattern on the front.
Search for sashiko on YouTube and you will find a lot of good help! There are also sashiko groups on Facebook, for example, and several craft guilds offer sashiko courses, so check a craft guild near you!
