Do you want to not only repair out of responsibility but actually find joy in taking care of what you have? Then I can help you.

My name is Eva Kittelsen. I am a fashion and textile designer who has worked with product development and purchasing in fast fashion, in an ethical startup, Fair & Square, as a designer and pattern maker, and now have my own business dedicated to helping as many people as possible find joy in repairing.

My business grows when we collectively slow down and start taking care of what we have. It's good for the environment, our wallets, and our own health.

Many wonder what the solution to eternal growth is. How can we switch to something else, won't everything collapse? Everything is already collapsing. Destruction is happening all around us, in nature, in the Oslofjord, in the air, in the ocean, and very much so in the countries that produce the goods we buy cheaply here. But we can choose true value instead of the symbolic value that money represents. We can consume less, work less, rest more, learn more, and create more ourselves, and not least, together.

I wanted to take responsibility, do my part, and start repairing clothes. When I started, it was mostly motivated by duty. However, I still wanted it to feel rewarding and fun, not just another demand.

VISIBLE MENDING

By combining embroidery and other decorative techniques, repairing became fun. Clothes evolve and become unique, and I feel like I'm playing when I fix them. One could perhaps call it "kintsugi for clothes."

I also learned that taking care of what we have can help us feel gratitude, even when it's not done creatively.

The practice of taking care of things forces us to slow down enough to actually notice all the amazing things we have available instead of constantly searching for something new.

I work to make Norway a country with a culture of repair and sharing, a country that can afford and has the privilege to choose not to, but can lead by example and show that it is when we care for, not consume, that we achieve good lives.
