It's finally here! Modern Mending by Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald is well-known among many with an interest in repair, but it hasn't been available in Europe until now! You can follow the author on Instagram and she also has her own Facebook group.
The book covers a very wide range of repair techniques, with a focus on sewing, patching, darning, needle felting, and machine darning.
The first part of the book provides general tips and guidance, reflections on repairing, how to develop and play with design, an overview of tools and equipment, and a very useful section on what tools and materials suit different types of fabrics and materials!
This is followed by a thorough review of the techniques mentioned above, with clear and good photos of many examples, showing the front and back of the garments.
The book has 70 pages of various "case studies" where you can see before and after photos of repaired garments and projects and read about the approach based on the wishes and taste of the garment's owner and the process leading to the result.
The book also has a section on some contemporary menders (including Eline Medbøe from Norway! (you can buy her book here)) and finally a bit about general maintenance, and a long list of further recommended reading.
A thorough and clear book for those who want to get started with repairs and try out many different techniques!
