Sashiko is a decorative Japanese stitching technique traditionally used to reinforce, repair, and decorate clothing and textiles. The technique is perfect for visible mending and has become immensely popular in recent years.
Each sashiko pattern is sewn onto a four-inch fabric square, and each pattern is shown with an image of the finished sample and a diagram indicating stitch direction and the order in which to sew.

Susan Briscoe teaches sashiko workshops and regularly participates in sewing and quilting fairs in the UK and internationally. She contributes to patchwork and hand-stitching magazines and has written several books on Japanese embroidery and patching techniques, including sashiko, boro, and kogin.
