Erin Eggenburg, who designed the Mending Transfers and Embroidery Transfers available in this online store, has published a book!
Erin has loved hand sewing for many years. When she started working for a charity with clothes and saw how much textile waste came from her city alone, she began experimenting with decorative repair of jeans, and eventually offered repair courses and workshops, live and, when the coronavirus pandemic hit, online as well. She has now taught hundreds of workshops!
There are countless ways to approach repair. This book focuses on repair using decorative stitches on the outside of the garment, on woven and knitted items.
At the back of the book, there are sheets with motifs that can be transferred to fabric by ironing them onto the garment, allowing the ink to transfer, so you can easily recreate the patterns in the book.
All the patterns for woven fabrics are built up from running stitches in various directions, patterns, and combinations, and have different levels of difficulty. The slightly shorter section on knitting shows different ways you can darn and combine colours to achieve exciting and varied results. This is a delightful book for any sewing enthusiast who wants to experiment and play with visible mending!
