It's not always easy to draw or mark what you want on the fabric you're going to embroider. Carbon paper is traditionally used to transfer pattern pieces to fabric with a tracing wheel, but it can also be very effectively used to transfer motifs and designs for embroidery, appliqué, textile painting or other crafts.
The paper comes in yellow and white.
Lay the fabric flat, then place the carbon paper on top of the fabric with the colored side facing down. Next, you can place a drawing you've made yourself, or something you've printed, etc., on top. Trace all the lines of the design with a pen or similar hard marker. The pressure from the pen will transfer color from the carbon paper to the fabric.
It's advisable to test the color in an inconspicuous spot on the garment to see if it washes out.
When embroidering, you can cover all the lines with thread, so even if some remains, it usually turns out fine as long as the thread covers the lines.
