Kogin is a type of embroidery that is somewhat similar to Norwegian smøyg (drawn thread work) or counted stitch. Geometric patterns are created by covering areas of fabric with horizontal stitches, counting your way through loosely woven fabric, and building up the pattern row by row.

Learn more about the technique here.

These kits contain a needle, thread, batting, fabric, and instructions (illustrated chart with Japanese text - see the link above for general guidance) for 1 pincushion.

You can also fill it with other things, possibly other things in combination with the included batting if you want more weight, or something that "sharpens" needles (like sand, walnut shells, steel wool, or similar). If you fill it with something other than batting, it may be a good idea to place a layer of more tightly woven fabric under the linen after you have finished embroidering, before cinching it closed with the filling, as the linen fabric is loosely woven to be suitable for kogin embroidery.

 Finished product measures approximately 10 x 10 x 3 cm
