Limited edition indigo-dyed cotton with a sew-on print, from Takayama, Japan.

We will likely purchase more later, but the price will increase due to shipping and other logistical costs, and we don't know how often we will have the opportunity to restock it.

Our founder, Eva Kittelsen, has been to Japan to learn more about Sashiko. In connection with this, you can now purchase a limited edition of indigo-dyed cotton with a pre-printed design that washes off. These fabrics were purchased from the shop/workshop of Keiko Futatsuya, the mother of Eva's sashiko teacher, Atsushi Gutatsuya. She is located in Takayama, in the Hida region where Hida-Sashiko originates.

This piece of fabric is suitable for, for example, a placemat, but can also be used for other things such as patching or any sewing project. If you are going to sew things from sashiko fabric, first sew the fabric with the pattern while it is flat, let it soak in warm water for about an hour when you are finished, let it dry, iron, and then cut the pieces for the pattern you are going to sew and sew it together like a regular fabric.

The indigo color will change over time with use but will not bleed onto the thread you sew with during washing.
